What is Body by Thermage and how does it work?

The Thermage body treatment is a non-invasive treatment that delivers tighter skin, renewed body contours, a reduction in visible cellulite and healthier collagen (collagen is the building block that provides structure to your skin).

As we get older, the collagen in our skin breaks down, resulting in wrinkles, crepiness, sagging and unsightly bulging skin. Body by Thermage procedures help tighten and renew your skin’s collagen through all skin layers: the epidermis, dermis and deep subcutaneous (fat) layers.

Thermage’s unique capacitive radiofrequency (RF) technology safely heats the deeper layers of your skin, stimulating existing collagen and promoting new collagen growth. The result, skin that looks and feels noticeably smoother, tighter and firmer.

The Thermage procedure employs a patented capacitive radiofrequency (CRF) technology called ThermaCool. ThermaCool uses a sophisticated treatment tip which delivers a controlled amount of CRF energy. With each touch to the skin, the ThermaTip device uniformly heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue while simultaneously protecting the outer layer of the skin with cooling.
This deep uniform heating action causes deep structures in your skin to immediately tighten.

Recently published studies conducted by Thermage show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients have reported seeing an earlier response.

Is Thermage safe?

The Thermage procedure has an excellent safety record. With over 190,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date the reported incidence of side effects is less than 0.4%. The most frequently reported incidents are classified as swelling, redness, bumps and blisters on or around the treated area. These side effects have disappeared in a few days or weeks. A rare (<0.11%) but longer lasting side effect described as a surface irregularity has also been reported.
