- Fatty tissue – which is soft.
- Glandular tissue – which is firm and dense
Once this is determined either liposuction, or excision will be the preferred option.

Very small incisions are made, through which a cannula is inserted, local anaesthetic is infused and then the fat is sucked out. This is usually performed using local anaesthetic with sedation, however, if can be done with a general anaesthetic.
